Kyoto was once the capital city of Japan. It is a beautiful and historical city filled with splendid temples and interesting shrines.

It was one of the top tourist destinations in the world this year and is growing in popularity.

Here in this Japanese language blog, Kamiyama sensei introduces one of the top sight-seeing spots in Kyoto. Read this and listen to natural Japanese too.

The other day I went to Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. Fushimi Inari shrine is so popular that it was chosen as the number 1 site by foreigners under the 'Places that I'm most glad I went to' category on Trip Advisor (a word of mouth site) for two years in a row.

After you bend down and go through the famous 1 thousand Torii or archway, you come to the “Omokaru Stone”. These are rounded stones that are placed on top of a stone-lantern for you to lift up. Before lifting one up you make a wish, then when you lift the stone up, if it seems lighter than you imagined it would be, then the wish will come true but if it seems heavier than you imagined it would be, then the wish will not be realized.

I gave it a try, but the stone was heavier than I'd expected. Does this mean that my wish will not come true ? That is sad, so I decided to positively believe that if you try hard, then any of your wishes can come true.

If you can go to Fushimi Inari shrine, please give this a go. In order to make my wishes come true, I bought a charm there and went home.
