Museums in Japan

If you are an art lover and enjoy visiting museums, then there are a lot of fantastic museums in Japan to travel to.
There are a large number of galleries that specialize in Japanese art and Western art, and a number of museums that contain collections from industrialists throughout Japanese history.

If you are in Tokyo, please check out the museums that are gathered together in Ueno park.

Ueno Park Museums
There are a total of six museums in this park.
The most famous is the National Museum of Nature and Science.

This is a great place to visit with children.
It has some great interactive exhibitions and educational resources.
Any child or adult with an interest in science would find this place a wonderful day out.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is also very popular.
Especially when they hold special exhibitions from world renowned artists - in Japan, the impressionists are extremely popular!

The Tokyo National Museum is a great place to enjoy traditional Japanese art.
They have an impressive collection of some of the greatest pieces of art in a range of media including pottery, textiles and woodwork.

The Ueno Royal Museum is also another great place to find Japanese art.
The museum is well-known for some of their temporary exhibitions and they have some large and very functional spaces for innovative displays.

But my personal recommendation is the National Museum of Western Art.
It is not as popular as the other museums and when I went to the park, I had to consult the map a couple of times to find it.
The entrance holds one of only 25 genuine enlargements of Rodin's Thinker in the world.

And there are an impressive collection of Rodin statuettes inside the museum too.

A large number of artists' works that can be found in this space including pieces by Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock
And there is a whole room dedicated to the works of Monet!

The pieces may not be the most famous examples of these artists' works, but it is so rare to get a chance to some of these giants of art history in such a comfortable and relaxed non-crowded space.

The Joan Miro work personally blew me away!

And if you like to look at jewelry, then one of the permanent exhibitions donated by Mr. Kanshi Hashimoto, will definitely be to your liking.
