Worlds largest hourglass

みなさんは砂時計を持っていますか？ 透明の容器の中に砂が入っていて、一定の時間を計るのに使うものです。

わたしは先日世界最大という砂時計を見に行きました。 これは島根県の仁摩サンドミュージアムにある一年計の砂時計「砂暦」です。 全長５．２ｍ、直径１ｍの容器の中に１ｔの砂が入っていて、わずか直径０．８２ｍｍのノズルから１秒間に０．０３２ｇずつ落ちています。 一年で砂はすべて落ちてしまいますから、毎年大晦日に大勢の人が綱を引いてこの砂時計を回転させるそうです。

砂時計は、時の流れを目で見て感じることができますね。 この砂暦を見て、「一年って長いな」と感じるか、「一年って案外短いな」と感じるかは人それぞれ。 みなさんはいかがでしょうか？

砂時計すなどけい

みなさんは砂時計すなどけいを持もっていますか？ 透明（とうめい）の容器ようきの中なかに砂すなが入はいっていて、一定いっていの時間じかんを計はかるのに使つかうものです。

わたしは先日せんじつ世界せかい最大さいだいという砂時計すなどけいを見みに行いきました。 これは島根県しまねけんの仁摩にまサンドミュージアムにある一年計いちねんけいの砂時計すなどけい「砂暦すなごよみ」です。 全長ぜんちょう５．２ｍ、直径ちょっけい１ｍの容器ようきの中なかに１ｔの砂すなが入はいっていて、わずか直径ちょっけい０．８２ｍｍのノズルから１秒間びょうかんに０．０３２ｇずつ落おちています。 一年いちねんで砂すなはすべて落おちてしまいますから、毎年まいとし大晦日おおみそかに大勢おおぜいの人ひとが綱つなを引ひいてこの砂時計すなどけいを回転かいてんさせるそうです。

砂時計すなどけいは、時ときの流ながれを目めで見みて感かんじることができますね。 この砂暦すなごよみを見みて、「一年いちねんって長ながいな」と感かんじるか、「一年いちねんって案外あんがい短みじかいな」と感かんじるかは人ひとそれぞれ。 みなさんはいかがでしょうか？

The world's largest hourglass

Do you have an hourglass? It is a transparent container which hold sand inside and used to measure a specific amount of time.

The other day, I went to see the world's biggest hourglass. It is a one year hourglass called Sunagoyomi and can be found in the Nima Sand Museaum in Shimane prefecture. It has a total length of 5.2 metres and is 1 meter in diameter and holds one ton of sand inside it, which trickles through a nozzle which is only 0.82 mm in diameter at a rate of 0.32 grams per second. All of the sand falls through within one year, so on New Year's Eve many people gather there to pull on a rope that turns the hourglass over.

You can see the time passing with your very eyes with an hourglass When they see Sunagoyomi, some people feel “Wow, one year is a really long time!” while others look and think, “One year is a surprisingly short time!” It depends on each person. How about you, how do you feel ?
