Frequently asked questions

A few useful details before you begin.

Contact JOI Support
Who are private lessons for?

Beginners through advanced learners can focus on their own goals: conversation, JLPT preparation, business Japanese, reading, kanji, or travel. Tell Support what you want to work on so we can match you with a teacher.

How are private lessons different from FlexLessons?

Both last 50 minutes. FlexLessons are small-group classes with up to seven students; private lessons give you 1-on-1 time and a curriculum tailored to your needs. Explore FlexLessons

Should I contact Support before buying?

Yes. Contact [email protected] to arrange a suitable teacher and lesson times before purchasing. English-language support is available. If you cancel after purchasing, transaction fees are not refunded.

Is this a monthly subscription?

No. Silver and Gold are one-time ticket packages. Four-lesson packages are valid for two months from purchase; 10-, 20-, and 40-lesson packages are valid for three months. Use your lessons within the package validity period.

What does Gold add to Silver?

Gold adds priority booking for assigned weekly time slots, lesson follow-up emails, and monthly progress reports on request. Follow-up emails and reports depend on the teacher; confirm availability before purchase.

Does Gold automatically reserve my lessons?

No. You still book each lesson in the reservation system. The 30-day window applies only to your assigned priority slots. Other slots open seven days ahead. Unbooked priority slots become available to everyone seven days before class.

Can I upgrade from Silver to Gold?

Email JOI Support to discuss upgrading and choose available priority time slots with your teacher. Each priority slot is assigned to one student, so your preferred time may already be taken.

How can I pay?

Pay in Japanese yen by credit card or PayPal through the booking system. Contact JOI Support if you prefer a bank transfer. Currency estimates are for reference; your payment provider determines the final exchange rate.
