Nominication

「飲みニケーション」という言葉を聞いたことがありますか。「飲みニケーション」は、お酒を飲んだり居酒屋などへ行ったりすることを意味 する「飲み」と「コミュニケーション(communication)」から成る造語です。 特に仕事仲間や取引先と一緒にお酒を飲む際に使われ、「飲みニケーション」によって人間関係が円満になったり、より親密になったりする 働きがあると言われていました。

90年代以降は日本社会の個人主義的な風潮などから、「飲みニケーション」は無駄だ、面倒くさいものだ、と考える人も多くなったそうです。飲み会で聞く「上司の愚痴・武勇伝」、 「他人の悪口・うわさ」が嫌だという若者を中心に、飲み会の参加率も下がっていきました。

ところが、最近「飲みニケーション」を再評価する動きがあると聞きました。希薄になっ た人間関係を「飲みニケーション」で親密にしようと、社内の飲み会に補助金を出す企業も出てきました。

先日レッスンで「飲みニケーション」の話をしたところ、「飲みニケーションはスムーズなコミュニケーションをする上で役に立ちますが、言わないほうがいいことを 言ってしまう可能性があります。」と言った方がいました。わたしも同じ意見です。

みなさん、「飲みニケーション」の際は、“ほろ酔い” 程度にしておきましょうね！

90年代以降ねんだいいこうは日本社会にほんしゃかいの個人主義的こじんしゅぎてきな風潮ふうちょうなどから、「飲のみニケーション」は無駄むだだ、面倒めんどうくさいものだ、と考かんがえる人ひとも多おおくなったそうです。飲のみ会 （かい）で聞きく「上司じょうしの愚痴ぐち・武勇伝ぶゆうでん」、 「他人たにんの悪口わるぐち・うわさ」が嫌いやだという若者（わかも の）を中心ちゅうしんに、飲のみ会かいの参加率さんかりつも下 （さ）がっていきました。

ところが、最近さいきん「飲（の)みニケーション」を再評価さいひょうか する動うごきがあると聞ききました。希薄きはくになった人間関係（にんげんかんけ い）を「飲のみニケーション」で親密しんみつにしようと、社内（しゃな い）の飲のみ会かいに補助金ほじょきんを出だす企業きぎょう も出でてきました。

先日せんじつレッスンで「飲のみニケーション」の話はなしをしたところ、「飲のみニケーションはスムーズなコミュニケーションをする上うえで 役やくに立たちますが、言いわないほうがいいことを言いってしまう可能性かのうせいがあります。」と言いった方かたがいました。わたしも同おなじ意見いけんです。

みなさん、「飲のみニケーション」の際さいは、“ほ ろ酔よい”程度ていどにしておきましょうね！

A reevaluation of 'Nominication'

Have you heard of the word 'Nominication' ? 'Nominication' is a phrase coined by joining the Japanese word for drinking (Nomi) and the English word Communication and it means going for drinks or going to a Japanese pub. It is especially used to describe going out for drinks with co-workers and clients, and some say that 'Nominication' helps to create more harmonious and intimate human relationships as well.

From the 1990s, as Japanese society began to veer towards a trend of individualism, more and more people began to see 'Nominication' as a waste of time and troublesome. Focussing on younger people, who said they hated "listening to their bosses' complaints and battle stories" or "listening to other people's complaints and gossip", the proportion of those attending after-five drinking events gradually began to decrease.

However recently I have heard that there is an ongoing movement to reappraise 'Nominication' . There are some companies that have started to subsidize in-company drinking parties in an effort to make inter-personal relationships, that have become too shallow, more intimate.

The other day while discussing 'Nominication' during a class, one student mentioned that, ''Nominication' is really useful to smooth out communication but there is the possibility of blurting out things that you really shouldn't say'. I agree with this opinion.

When you are out doing 'Nominication' , please take care to just remain only slightly intoxicated !
