Japanese conventional mobile phones

みなさんはガラケーという言葉を知っていますか？ これは「ガラパゴス携帯」の略で、スマホが登場する前の「普通の携帯電話」のことです。 なぜ「ガラパゴス？」というと・・・
それは日本の携帯が世界標準から外れた独自の進化をとげたからだそうです。

このような携帯を、他の島との接触をさけて、オリジナルな進化をとげたガラパゴス諸島の生物に例えて表したのがガラケーなのです。

ちなみに私は今でもガラケー派です。（ちらほらいます） 電話やメールをするくらいで、多機能なスマホは必要ないのと、通信費用がネックとなり、何回かショップに行ったものの、まだガラケーを使っています。

でも最近は外でガラケーを取り出すのが少し恥ずかしくなってきました。 いつスマホに替えるか？当分悩みそうです。

このような携帯けいたいを、他ほかの島しまとの接触せっしょくをさけて、オリジナルな進化しんかをとげたガラパゴス諸島しょとうの生物せいぶつに例たとえて表あらわしたのがガラケーなのです。

Japanese conventional mobile phones

Do you know the word "Gala Kei" ? It is an abbreviation of 'Galapagos Keitai' which were the conventional Japanese mobile phones before the days of Smartphones. Why Galapagos ? I hear you ask....well apparently it is because that Japanese mobile phones were set apart from the world standard and had their own original evolution.

These mobile phones were likened to the animals found on the Galapagos islands because like them, they avoided contact from other islands' formats and evolved in their own original manner, so we get the word "Gala Kei".

Incidentally, I am part of the "Gala Kei" group. (There are still a few of us here and there) I only use my phone to make calls and send texts so I don't really need the many functions found on Smartphones, that and the fact that the connection fees are so high are some of the of the reasons why I have been to the cell phone shop many times but I'm still using a "Gala Kei".

But recently when I go out it is becoming a little embarrassing to take out my "Gala Kei"phone. When am I going to make the switch to a Smartphone ? It looks like I am going to keep worrying about this for a while longer.
