Japanese chrysanthemum

This week we introduce the chrysanthemum, the flower that represents autumn in Japan.

There are many types of chrysanthemum, and they come in many shapes, sizes and colours. They are elegant flowers with many small petals.

Many people make growing chrysanthemums a hobby, and competitions to see how well the flowers do are actively held throughout the country in autumn.

Chrysanthemums are also a flower that represents Japan. For example, the chrysanthemum is a mark of the imperial family, and Japanese passports have a large picture of a chrysanthemum on them. Furthermore, it is also the design on the 50 yen coins, various orders and badges of parliamentarians.

Chrysanthemums are also used in Japanese cuisine for food and as a discreet decoration for dishes.

In this way, the chrysanthemum is a flower that represents the image of Japan and the Japanese people.
