Japanese Food Day

Today, I would like to introduce Japanese Food Day, or Washoku no Hi.

This day was decided upon to spread understanding of the appeal of Japanese food and to make everyone aware of the importance of passing it on to the next generation. The reason why 24 November was chosen is it is a play on words or pun using the numbers of the Japanese word (1124) "i (1) i (1) ni nihonshoku (24)".

What do you think are the attractions of Japanese food? The following four things are said to be attractive.

(1) Japan is an island country surrounded by the sea and rich in nature, with mountains, rivers and fields. There is a wide variety of foodstuffs there.

(2) The basic menu of Japanese food consists of rice, soup and side dishes. It is said to have a good nutritional balance because you can take a small amount of various ingredients. Fermented foods such as soy sauce, miso, tofu and natto are also often used.

(3) As well as the ingredients, the flowers, leaves, dishes and utensils used to decorate the meal change with the seasons, allowing you to enjoy the changes of the four seasons.

(4) Japanese food is deeply connected with annual events in Japan, such as New Year osechi dishes and spring hanami bento lunches.

Japanese food is not only delicious, but can also be enjoyed from many different aspects.

I started teaching Japanese to technical intern trainees and internship students, and since 2019, online Japanese instructor at JOI.

My main focus is on Business Japanese and JLPT grammar (N1,N2.N3) in particular. I am also available for short-term private lessons to improve your business Japanese skills before joining a company, taking an assignment, or changing jobs on your requested schedule.

I worked for a major machine manufacturer for about 40 years. During that time, I was assigned to various departments such as factories, trading, R&D, sales, general affairs, accounting, and auditing. With these experiences, I believe I can provide you with practical assistance in various situations when you are doing business in Japanese.
