Juusanmairi the 13th shrine visit
There are many rites of passage ceremonies in Japan.
Many revolve around the visiting of shrines wearing traditional clothes.
Yamamoto explains a little-known one here below.

今週は「十三参り」を紹介します。
子供が大人に近づき13歳になった時に、知恵の神様にお願いをして、知恵をもらう行事です。 4月13日頃に行う所が多いです。
女の子は少し大きな大人の着物を着て神社に行きます。 また、子供の夢などを漢字一文字で筆書きして、持って行きます。 神社を出るまでは後ろを振り向いてはいけないと言われています。
子供が大人への仲間入りをする、少し緊張する時です。

Juusanmairi the 13th shrine visit
This week I am introducing an event called Jūsanmairi or The 13th Visit.
This event is held when a child approaches adulthood and turns 13, and makes a request to the god of wisdom to receive wisdom.
In many places, it is held around 13 April.
Girls wear a slightly larger adult kimono and visit shrines.
They also write their childhood dreams in one kanji character and bring these with them.
It is said that the child must not look back until leaving the shrine.
This is a slightly tense time when the child is brought into the world of adulthood.

I started teaching Japanese to technical intern trainees and internship students, and since 2019, online Japanese instructor at JOI.
My main focus is on Business Japanese and JLPT grammar (N1,N2.N3) in particular. I am also available for short-term private lessons to improve your business Japanese skills before joining a company, taking an assignment, or changing jobs on your requested schedule.
I worked for a major machine manufacturer for about 40 years. During that time, I was assigned to various departments such as factories, trading, R&D, sales, general affairs, accounting, and auditing. With these experiences, I believe I can provide you with practical assistance in various situations when you are doing business in Japanese.
