★English Translation

JOI is going to start its Obon holiday soon. The Obon period dates differ from area to area, there are areas that hold it in the middle of July and those that hold it in the middle of August.  The Obon period is said to be when one's ancestors return home, and people offer prayers to welcome the souls of their returning ancestors and also do various other things for this.

For example, some craft horses and oxen out of cucumbers and egg plants for their ancestors to ride back on, while others light fires and visit their ancestoral graves.
In the area I live, the other they held a floating lantern ceremony. The floating lantern ceremony is one of a number of different ceremonies held during the Obon period; it involves floating lighted lanterns down a river or out to the sea in order to mourn the departed souls of loved ones. The various colors of lanterns floating along  in the dark space was truly magical .

Lets enjoy learning Japanese together again after the Obon holiday is over !
