みなさんは藤の花を知っていますか。藤棚を見たことがありますか。

藤は、蝶々のような形をした小さな花をぶどうの房状に咲かせます。花の色は、一般的な薄紫をはじめ、白やピンクなどがあります。藤は蔓植物なので、自身で体を支えるのではなく、何かを支えにして蔓を伸ばしていくという性質があります。その特性を活かし、日除けがないところに人工的な棚を作りそこに蔓を這わせるのです。花を咲かせると棚から房状の花が一斉に垂れてきて、日本人には馴染み深い藤棚ができるのです。 毎年、4月下旬から5月初旬にかけて見頃を迎えます。

実は先月、「実在する世界の美しい場所10」に選ばれた、福岡県北九州市にある「河内藤園」に　行ってきました！同じ福岡県に住んでいる人でも、この「河内藤園」のことを知らない人が意外と多いんです。私もその一人でした。

さて、ここ「河内藤園」には　22種類もの藤の花が咲いており、一番の”売り”は、何といっても藤のトンネルです。全長220ｍのものと80ｍの2つのトンネルがあり、トンネルの出口の方に目を向けると藤のグラデーションが何層にも重なっているのが見られます。美しすぎて、もう言葉になりません。 また、藤の香りのよいこと・・・やさしい香りに身も心も引き寄せられ、リラックス効果絶大です。一説には藤の花の香気成分にアンチエイジング効果もあるのだとか。トンネルのほかにも藤のドームや巨大藤棚も見応えがあり、風が吹くと一斉に揺れ動く花の房が心を癒してくれました。

この美しさが口コミで海外にまで広がり、今では観光スポットとして日本人はもとより、たくさんの外国人の方たちも訪れています。開園時期は、「来園者にゆっくり楽しんでほしい という主催者の計らいで、事前にチケットを買わないと入園できないシステムになっています。

みなさんは藤（ふじ）の花（はな）を知（し）っていますか。藤棚（ふじだな）を見（み）たことがありますか。

さて、ここ「河内藤園（かわちふじえん）」には　22種類（しゅるい）もの藤（ふじ）の花（はな）が咲（さ）いており、一番（いちばん）の”売（う）り”は、何（なん）といっても藤（ふじ）のトンネルです。全長（ぜんちょう）220ｍのものと80ｍの2つのトンネルがあり、トンネルの出口（でぐち）の方（ほう）に目（め）を向（む）けると藤（ふじ）のグラデーションが何層（なんそう）にも重（かさ）なっているのが見（み）られます。美（うつく）しすぎて、もう言葉（ことば）になりません。 また、藤（ふじ）の香（かお）りのよいこと・・・やさしい香（かお）りに身（み）も心（こころ）も引（ひ）き寄（よ）せられ、リラックス効果（こうか）絶大（ぜつだい）です。一説（いっせつ）には藤（ふじ）の花（はな）の香気成分（こうきせいぶん）にアンチエイジング効果（こうか）もあるのだとか。トンネルのほかにも藤（ふじ）のドームや巨大藤棚（きょだいふじだな）も見応（みごた）えがあり、風（かぜ）が吹（ふ）くと一斉（いっせい）に揺（ゆ）れ動（うご）く花（はな）の房（ふさ）が心（こころ）を癒（いや）してくれました。

The fantastic world of the Kawachi Fuji garden

Do you know Fuji flowers (or Japanese wisteria) ? Have you ever seen a Wisteria trellis or pergola ?

Japanese wisteria or Fuji flowers are small blooms shaped like butterflies, and they grow acinously like grapes do. The flowers' colours are generally light purple but can also be white and pink. Wisteria are vine plants, so they cannot support themselves rather, by nature they need something to support them so that their vines can grow. So using those characteristics, we build trellises artificially in places without sunlight and train the vines around these. When the flowers bloom, the acinous blossoms hang all together from the vines and Wisteria pergolas of a style that Japanese people are well-acquainted with are created. The best time to see them every year is in late April and early May.

Actually, last month I went to Kawachi Fuji garden in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka prefecture which was named in the top 10 Beautiful places in the world that actually exist. There are surprisingly many people who don't know about this Kawachi Fuji garden, even among people who live in Fukuoka prefecture, and I was one of them.

So at the Kawachi Fuji garden they have 22 species of Wisteria growing there, and above all the highlight is a Wisteria tunnel. The total length is 220 meters long with 2 tunnels each 80 meters long. And if you turn your eyes in the direction of the tunnel exit, you can see a multi-layered color gradation of Wisteria. It is too beautiful for words.

The scent of Wisteria is also really good... it is a sweet smell that permeates not only your body but your heart as well and has a great relaxation effect. According to one theory, the aromatic constituents of the Wisteria scent has an anti-aging effect. Apart from the tunnel, the Wisteria dome and the huge Wisteria trellis are also worth seeing and when it blows, the sight of the Wisteria blossoms swaying in the wind heals one's heart.

The beauty of this spot has been spread by word of mouth abroad, so now there are more foreign tourists than Japanese tourists visiting this sight-seeing spot. During the opening period of garden, at the discretion of the organisers who feel that, “we would like visitors to take their time to enjoy the site” , the system is that you have to purchase advanced tickets or else you cannot enter the garden.
