Japanese bento

Japanese business people and school children often take lunch boxes with them to school or the office. These lunch boxes are called Obento or simply bento.

They usually consist of a portion of rice and some meat dish and vegetables. They are often rather beautifully made and there is an art to making good Obento here in Japan.

One of the easiest ways to make your lunch box a little bit more special is explained here by Ishibashi sensei. Read this easy Japanese blog and listen to and watch the video narrated by Ishibashi sensei.

Octopus wieners

Do you like wieners ? There is a custom here in Japan to bring lunch boxes to schools and offices. And wieners are often put inside these lunch boxes.

But these wieners aren't just put into the lunch boxes as they are, they are often changed into cute shapes like octopus wieners or crab wieners.Octopus wieners are the easiest to make. You make some cuts along one side of the wiener with a knife. Then you stir-fry them in a frying pan and you've got octopus wieners.

To make crab wieners, you make cuts on both sides of the wieners and then stir-fry them in a frying pan. Please try to make some interesting wieners of your own !

Hajimemashite, my name is Kaori Ishibashi.
I live in Ibaraki city, in Osaka prefecture, with my husband, son and daughter. Ibaraki city is in between Osaka and Kyoto and is in a very convenient location. Before I was married, I went to Canada and Spain as an exchange student. So I too love to study languages.
Since my children are still so young, I cannot readily go abroad, so I am really glad of the opportunity to communicate with people from various countries through JOI. Let's study Japanese together.
