Introducing

Hello everyone! I am Sakie Chiba. I grew up in Kanagawa prefecture, which is next to Tokyo. I went to a university in Kyoto and live in the UK now.

My hobby is watching “owarai” (Japanese comedy), but I also like to watch American and British comedy programs. If there are comedy shows in your country you would recommend, tell me all about them!

A Japanese phrase that I like is “ichigo ichie”, which means “a once-in-a-lifetime chance”. It seems miraculous that I could meet you in this big world, even through the wonders of the Internet. I will cherish our meeting?consider it a once-in-a-lifetime chance?and will be happy to help you study Japanese for a long time.

Everyone, let’s study Japanese together and have some fun!

Japanese Teaching Style
What kinds of activities do you include in your online Japanese classes?

Beginner 1

In the beginner 1 class, you will learn a sentence patterns .By practising and repeating dialogue, you will acquire new vocabulary and phrases naturally.   Since slides for the lesson have romanised letters and English translations as well as Japanese, you can have the lesson without any worry.

Beginner 2

In the beginner 2 class, you will practice a sentence pattern to accomplish an authentic task. For example, when you implement a task such as “making a plan of a birthday party with friends,” which sentence patterns, vocabularies and phrases would you need to use? The object of the lesson is to be able to perform this kind of specific task only in Japanese. I will provide the lessons that can help you learn to express, in Japanese, whatever you can say in your native language and ease frustrations often felt by students.

Low Intermediate

In the low-intermediate class, you will learn not just sentence patterns but also how to use speech styles. It is important to learn how to shift the speech styles depending on the situation for natural communication. It could be that, even though you studied most of the basic sentence patterns, you can’t understand Japanese dramas because of the speech styles. Let’s study the speech styles as well as sentence patterns!

Please share your thoughts on teaching and learning Japanese.

I place importance on natural interaction in class. Before the lesson, I sometimes ask you about yourself. During the lesson, we have time to speak using the sentence pattern we learn on the day. You will acquire better Japanese effectively through authentic communication.
