Introducing NAKAMURA Machiko

Hajimemashite. My name is Machiko Nakamura.

I was born in Tokyo but raised in Ibaraki prefecture (famous for its delicious natto, a kind of fermented soybeans). I have also lived in Hiroshima prefecture and Hyogo prefecture. I am married and live in Tokyo now with my husband and two children.

My hobbies are tennis, watching movies, visiting museums (I once did some volunteer work), reading books (especially historical novels), and traveling.

You might feel, "I want to express myself in Japanese!" or "I want to be able to read and write Japanese!". I'd really like to help you toward that goal, and look forward to seeing you in our online Japanese classroom.

Teaching Style
What kinds of activities or lessons do you include in your Japanese classes?

I use the Minna no Nihongo textbook by practicing a single grammar structure in each class. We practice repeating the structure many times so that you can use it confidently in everyday conversations. The important job for me is to create an atmosphere that helps you enjoy speaking and learning in the class—without worrying about making mistakes. And don't fret about Hiragana and Katakana—I include Romaji and English subtitles with the sentences in class.

For private lessons, whether you want to focus on Kanji, prepare for the Japanese Language Profiency Test (JLPT), or converse as much as possible, I will create lesson materials that are tailor-made for your needs.

Please share your thoughts on teaching and learning Japanese.

Words are a means of communication; their most important role is to help you understand what the other person is saying and to help you express what you want to convey. Add to the mix students from different countries and cultures, and it makes for a fun, lively class. I try to make lessons so that, at the close of every class, you can honestly say, "Wow, I really enjoyed that."
