Introducing MOMII Shigefumi

My name is Momii. Most of my duties are the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 preparation classes.

In my view, learning basic Kanji precisely is a road to success in improving your Japanese ability and in passing the JLPT. With Kanji firmly in place as a foundation, you can add conversation and grammar to gain a solid linguistic ability.

To all who are planning to take the JLPT, I'd like to recommend our online JLPT preparation classes as a way to help you use your limited study time most effectively. And even if you have no plans to take the JLPT, these balanced lessons can help you improve vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening skills.

Please join me in our online Japanese classes, and let's aim for success on the JLPT.

Teaching Style
What kinds of activities or lessons do you include in your Japanese classes?

My JLPT preparation classes consist of these elements:

  • Subjects: (1) grammar, (2) kanji and vocabulary, and (3) reading comprehension.
  • Textbooks: We make use of the Kanzen Master series of textbooks. Review is an essential element of JLPT study, and I encourage students to study and review the material in the textbook as much as practical.
  • Grammar: The focus is on grammar elements that have been (or are projected to be) included in JLPT tests, the so-called JLPT content specifications. Level 2 includes 170 grammar forms; level 1 contains an additional 110 forms.
  • Kanji and Vocabulary: These two subjects are inseparable. While studying Kanji and their readings, students learn new vocabulary words. While memorizing vocabulary, I encourage students to review Kanji.
  • Reading Comprehension: Reading involves reviewing grammar, vocabulary, and Kanji, gradually progressing from straightforward material to more challenging selections. We use reading selections specifically targeted for the JLPT.

Please share your thoughts on teaching and learning Japanese.

I believe that learning a selection of several hundred fundamental Kanji precisely and completely is key to advancement in Japanese. With an understanding of Kanji comes an understanding of Japanese words. With an understanding of Japanese words, grammar and reading comprehension become much simpler.
