Introducing FUJINAWA Miyako

Hajimemashite.

My name is Fujinawa Miyako. The name Fujinawa is not a very common name; whenever I meet other Japanese people, I often get told, "Fujinawa—that's a rare one." For most people it's the first time they've heard this surname.

I've been teaching Japanese as a volunteer for about 10 years. I have had the opportunity to teach people from Ghana, America, Britain, Canada, Peru, Venezuela, China, and Korea.

It has been through this opportunity of meeting people directly that I've realized how interesting the Japanese language can be. Things that I have never even considered before have come up with many different students.

Every day brings a new experience, and I am really looking forward to more new experiences with you. Dozo yoroshiku onegai-shimasu.

Teaching Style
What kinds of activities or lessons do you include in your Japanese classes?

In the JLPT N2 & N3 FlexLessons, we study specific grammar points and the related questions from practice test papers. I also try to include any requests from students when they want to study another JLPT topic, such as reading comprehension or vocabulary.

I don't want the classes to be just about cramming for the test, so we also study and practice everyday conversational phrases. I also sometimes ask the students to write their own short sentences—one great way to learn a grammar point is to create your own practice sentences that are not in the textbooks.

Naturally, I recommend this class to those students wishing to study for the JLPT, but I'd also like to invite other students who are interested in improving their Japanese grammar.

In my JLPT N1 classes, I want to create an environment for students who plan to take the N1 test next year, as well as those students who plan to take the test at later date. With a dose of review from N2 topics, the goal is to enrich N1 vocabulary and grammar skills.

Please share your thoughts on teaching and learning Japanese.

The ability to customize your study plan at JOI is one of our strong points. Some students mix intermediate Flexlessons and JLPT classes, whereas some students take classes from different teachers within the same level.

You can learn whenever you want, wherever you want, and tailor the lessons to fit your schedule and your needs. If you want to learn Japanese, I hope you'll give our online school a try.
