Hajimemashite everyone ! My name is Akari Ueno.
I live in Tokyo with my husband and daughter.
I have had the experience of living in Hokkaido, Yokohama and Singapore.
I studied History in university, so I love touring around historical ruins. When I was younger, I went to see the Great Pyramids and Borobudur in Indonesia, but now I merely tour around the neighborhood parks with my daughter. I dream of touring around the world's famous ruins with my daughter one day.
When I study languages, one English phrase always comes to mind, "Use it, or lose it".
I used to be scared of making mistakes, so even when I learned new vocabulary, I didn't use it.
But after learning this English phrase from a friend, I started to use the vocabulary and terms I'd learned without fear of making mistakes.
Try to use your newly learned vocabulary and phrases all the time in the lessons.
Looking forward to meeting you all in class !
Japanese Teaching Style
What kinds of activities do you include in your online Japanese classes?
For learners that have progressed up to the Intermediate level, your vocabulary and grammar have improved significantly compared to when you started out learning Japanese. But despite the fact that you have learned this much it doesn't mean much if you cannot use the learning you've gained in the correct situations. We learn the topic of the day and use the grammar point that we are focusing on to practice which situation we use it in, which words and phrases it goes well with and learn more about its usage in a natural way. We study how to use expressions in different ways depending on the person you are talking with – whether its a friend, or co-worker or a business setting or formal one. I aim to expand your ability to express yourself.
Intermediate Grammar (incl. JLPT N2)
In this class style, we study one or two grammatical structures. We learn how to use it, connect it into sentence forms using example sentences so that even those of you who have never heard or used the phrase can be able to understand it. On top of all this, we also make some compositions in class and do some exercises from the JLPT N2 test to deepen your understanding of the grammar. I also often include some quizzes and dictation and short reading comprehension practice. For those of you that are planning to take the JLPT N2 and for those of you that are not planning to take it, I take care to make sure that the lessons are both informative and effective – so go ahead and join my class !
Using illustrations and photographs, I try to make sure that you spend the 50 minute lessons using and speaking Japanese as much as possible. Even if you do not read hiragana or katakana, no worries, we show the romaji reading and English translations in all the material we use in the class. For absolute beginners, Japanese pronunciation can feel a difficult but by practiing together you will be able to sound out the sounds smoothly. The most important thing in Introductory classes is to relax and enjoy yourself. Lets enjoy learning Japanese !
Please share your thoughts on teaching and learning Japanese.
In all of the different languages that are out there, the fact that you have an interest in learning Japanese, is to me, as a Japanese person, something that makes me very happy.
