Japanese noodle cuisine

There are many types of noodle cuisine restaurants in Japan. The majority of restaurants that serve noodles, cater to a single type of noodle and offer a unique style of cooking and original ingredients in order to differentiate themselves from the competition.

In this short and interesting blog for Japanese learners, Japanese teacher Chiharu Takase talks about her changing love for noodle cuisine and her newfound interest in taking eating tours of different restaurants.

Read the blog and listen to the spoken Japanese in the video, and practice your listening skills. .

Noodle cuisine

Do you like noodle cuisine? There are a variety of noodle cuisine types from udon, ramen, and soba noodles to pasta and Hiyashi chuka.

When I was younger I didn't eat a lot of noodle dishes because the sauce or soup would tend to splash and make my clothes dirty but recently I have found that they are cheap and can be eaten quickly and can basically fill you up so I have come to eat noodle dishes more often now. We eat udon when we eat out as a family, I often make pasta for lunch at home and in summer we eat Hisyashi Chuka and when I need some energy I eat ramen with pork slices (Chashumen) .

I think I would like to take up the hobby of trying out various noodles at different restaurants. At the moment one of my favorites is a shop called Maru Game Seimen. If you have a favorite noodle cuisine shop, please let me know.

I was born in the spring, that's why my parents decided to include the the Kanji for spring (haru) in my name. My hometown is in Yamaguchi prefecture on the western coast of Honshu, but now I live in Kyoto, one of Japan's early capital cities. I'm married with one son, and my hobby is the Japanese tea ceremony.
