Natto Fermented Soy Beans

Natto is a type of Japanese fermented food made from fermented soy beans, which has a strong odour and a sticky texture in the mouth. Though there are some people who say they love Natto, even among Japanese people there are those who really do not like it.
It was originally a food from the Kanto region , so one often hears stories that people from the Kansai area do not eat Natto much.
I am originally from the Kanto area but to tell the truth I do not like Natto very much. I can eat it but I wouldn't go out of my way to. I only eat when there aren't enough side dishes or when I feel that there isn't enough nutrition in a meal.

Because Natto is a really love/hate food even among Japanese, a lot of people think that, “It must be impossible for foreigners to like” . Have you ever been asked by a Japanese person, “Can you eat Natto ?”In truth I often ask this question too , and when the reply is, “I can eat it fine” I too say, “Wow!” in admiration.

There are many ways to eat Natto. The standard method is to mix it with soy sauce and put it over  some white rice: but some people also put it in miso soup, or put on bread while others use it as an ingredient to eat with pasta.  Apparently it is also popular for people to eat it with raw eggs, Kimuchi, cheese, grated Japanese radish, mayonnaise, as well as other cooking ingredients.
I often think that I would also like to try to eat it in other various ways, but I don't have the courage to, so I just end up eating it the same way each time.
