A present from my nieces

私には３人の姪っ子がいます。 弟夫婦の子供ですが、私の家から弟の家まで車で片道4時間かかるので、頻繁に会うことができません。電話もあまりしません。
ところが先月、その姪っ子たちから突然電話がきました。 「今度の日曜日、幼稚園の運動会なんだ。見に来てくれる？」 急な誘いでしたが、私はなんとか時間を作って運動会を見に行きました。
運動会では双子の一人が元気よく「選手宣誓」をし、もう片方が凛々しく「国旗掲揚」をしました。その後の「かけっこ」や「おゆうぎ」も一生懸命取り組んでいました。また、障害を持ったお友達をやさしく誘導して一緒に走る姿も見せてくれました。叔母でありながら、私は彼女らの成長に大感激でした。
そして、私が帰る時、ささやかなプレゼントをもらいました。 長女から「妹たちの応援にきてくれてありがとう」という言葉と、道端で拾った栗。 双子からは「大好き」という言葉が添えられた似顔絵。 彼女たちの気持ちがいっぱい詰まった心温まるプレゼントに私も胸がいっぱいでした。

姪っ子（めいっこ）からのプレゼント
私（わたし）には３人（にん）の姪っ子（めいっこ）がいます。 弟夫婦（おとうとふうふ）の子供（こども）ですが、私（わたし）の家（うち）から弟（おとうと）の家（うち）まで車（くるま）で片道（かたみち）4時間（じかん）かかるので、頻繁（ひんぱん）に会（あ）うことができません。電話（でんわ）もあまりしません。ところが先月（せんげつ）、その姪っ子（めいっこ）たちから突然（とつぜん）電話（でんわ）がきました。
「今度（こんど）の日曜日（にちようび）、幼稚園（ようちえん）の運動会（うんどうかい）なんだ。見（み）に来（き）てくれる？」 急（きゅう）な誘（さそ）いでしたが、私（わたし）はなんとか時間（じかん）を作（つく）って運動会（うんどうかい）を見（み）に行（い）きました。
運動会（うんどうかい）では双子（ふたご）の一人（ひとり）が元気（げんき）よく「選手宣誓（せんしゅせんせい）」をし、もう片方（かたほう）が凛々（りり）しく「国旗掲揚（こっきけいよう）」をしました。その後（あと）の「かけっこ」や「おゆうぎ」も一生懸命（いっしょうけんめい）取（と）り組（く）んでいました。また、障害（しょうがい）を持（も）ったお友達（ともだち）をやさしく誘導（ゆうどう）して一緒（いっしょに）に走（はし）る姿（すがた）も見（み）せてくれました。叔母（おば）でありながら、私（わたし）は彼女（かのじょ）らの成長（せいちょう）に大感激（だいかんげき）でした。
そして、私（わたし）が帰（かえ）る時（とき）、ささやかなプレゼントをもらいました。 長女（ちょうじょ）から「妹（いもうと）たちの応援（おうえん）にきてくれてありがとう」という言葉（ことば）と、道端（みちばた）で拾（ひろ）った栗（くり）。 双子（ふたご）からは「大好き（だいすき）」という言葉（ことば）が添（そ）えられた似顔絵（にがおえ）。 彼女（かのじょ）たちの気持ち（きもち）がいっぱい詰（つ）まった心温まる（こころあたたまる）プレゼントに私（わたし）も胸（むね）がいっぱいでした。
I have 3 nieces. They are my younger brother's children, but my house and my brother's house is 4 hours drive apart one way, so I cannot meet them frequently. And we don't phone often either. But anyway, last month I got a sudden call from these nieces.
"Next Sunday is our Kindergarten's Sports Day Festival, can you come and watch ?" It was really short notice, but somehow I made the time and went to watch the sports festival. At the sports festival, one of the twins energetically made 'the athlete's oath of fair play' and the other one bravely hoisted the National flag. And after that they heartily joined in with the races and play activities. And we also got to see them leading their friends who had disabilities and running along with them. Even though I am their aunt, I was deeply impressed by how much they had grown.
And then, when it came for time to go home, I received a small present from them. From the oldest girl I got the message with the words, "Thank you for coming to support my little sisters" along with some chestnuts that she'd picked from along the roadside. And from the twins I got the words "We love you" accompanied by a portrait of me. My heart filled over from with these warming gifts that were made with such tender feelings.
